One of my heart’s desire as a Christian wife is to speak life to my husband. My words to him can either bring life or death, hope or anxiety, connection or separation both to him and our marriage.
As it says in Proverbs 18:21
“The tongue has the power of life and death,
and those who love it will eat its fruit.”
Good things come to those who speak life.
During the first few years of our marriage, I didn't understand the power of my words. At times I was not very encouraging; I would often jump to false conclusions and say words that did not engender intimacy in our relationship.
I didn't notice the difference between male and female relationships.
As females, we share all our feeling with our girlfriends, but men don't typically share how they feel with their friends.
I didn't understand he sometimes needed me to be a sounding board a place to unload his troubles without me being critical of him or being overwhelmed when he was overwhelmed. It was times like this I didn't always say things that were uplifting and supportive.
My lack of support often made my husband withdraw from me.
When you speak words of affirmation over your husband, it builds him up as the spiritual leader of the home.
When men feel respected and appreciated, it positions them to want to care for and protect you.
Which, in return, makes you feel more loving and kinder to him.
Over the past few years, I have worked hard to take my marriage from good to great. I want to cherish my husband and appreciate him for the gift that God gave me. My goal is not just to stay married but to enjoy my marriage and the person that God gave me.
